To create the film's groundbreaking special effects, Lucas collaborated with Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a company he co-founded in 1975. ILM's innovative use of models, animation, and digital compositing brought the Star Wars universe to life, with iconic visuals such as the crawl of text in the opening scene, the lightsaber duels, and the dogfighting sequences between Rebel and Imperial spacecraft.
