While keeping held, release Stop/Resume , then press it five times in quick succession.
If you reset the counter without cleaning the pads, the next time the printer does a purge cycle, actual liquid ink will overflow the sponge. It will drip onto your desk, inside the electronics, and potentially short the power supply.
Never update your printer’s firmware after resetting. New firmware often patches the exploit that allows the reset tool to work.
The printer has a built-in counter that tracks how much ink has been pumped into the sponge. Canon estimates the capacity of these pads. When the counter reaches a specific threshold, the printer triggers a "Service Error 5B00" or displays a message about the ink absorber being full. This is a safety measure designed to prevent ink from overflowing the pads and causing a mess.
: Once in Service Mode, press the Resume button four times , followed by the Power button once to confirm the selection (Reset Counter Absorber). Method 2: Using the Canon Service Tool (V3400 or V3600)
