Unlike the traditional prince-and-ball gown narrative, Once Upon a Song transplants the fairy tale to a modern performing arts school in New York City. The protagonist, Katie Gibbs (played by Vampire Diaries star Kay Panabaker), is not a maid scrubbing floors; she is an aspiring singer-songwriter forced to work as a production assistant for her narcissistic stepmother, Gail van Ravenswaay (the brilliantly wicked Jennifer Coolidge), and her stepsister, the tone-deaf but fame-hungry Bev (an over-the-top performance by Madison Pettis).
Katie’s "prince" is Luke Morgan (Sterling Knight from Sonny with a Chance ), the school's heartthrob and son of a major record executive. The "glass slipper" here is a demo track. When Katie secretly lays down a vocal track for a school showcase, her stepmother passes it off as Bev’s singing. The conflict resolves in a spectacular finale where Katie must reveal her true voice rather than her true face. A Cinderella Story- Once Upon A SongHD
