Visually, Near Dark is a triumph of mood and atmosphere. Cinematographer Adam Greenberg (who also shot The Terminator ) bathes the film in deep blues, smoky oranges, and stark blacks. The famous barroom massacre scene remains one of the most iconic sequences in 80s horror. As the vampire clan enters a lonely roadhouse, the camera lingers on the neon beer signs and the haze of cigarette smoke. When the violence erupts, it is chaotic and messy, yet filmed with a kinetic energy that is purely Bigelow.
