Iisc _top_: Subho Dasgupta

The biological neuron is a complex entity involving ion channels, chemical gradients, and intricate dendritic trees. Modeling this biologically is computationally expensive. Dasgupta’s research often focused on simplifying these models without losing their functional essence. He worked extensively on deriving simplified firing-rate models that could explain how populations of neurons behave.

Perhaps the most enduring legacy of any professor is not just the papers they publish, but the scientists they create. In the Indian academic circuit, it is not uncommon to find leading researchers in neuroscience and physics who trace their intellectual lineage back to Dasgupta’s guidance at IISc. subho dasgupta iisc
