Emilia Perez -
Emilia Perez is not a perfect film. It is too long. The tonal shifts (from farce to tragedy to telenovela) can give you whiplash. Some musical numbers feel experimental to the point of self-indulgence.
You will laugh at the absurdity of a drug lord singing a ballad. You will cry when Emilia holds her son’s hand in public for the first time as a woman. You will gasp during the final 20 minutes, which veer into Greek tragedy territory. Emilia Perez
