On one hand, this combat is objectively "better" for a 2008 action game. On the other, it destroys the survival horror tension. In Homecoming , you are rarely helpless. You can side-step the Nurses, execute a finishing move on a Schism monster, and drop a cultist with a shotgun blast to the face. This action-oriented shift made the game feel closer to Resident Evil 4 than Silent Hill 2 .
No discussion of Homecoming is complete without addressing its technical fall from grace. The PC port is notoriously broken, requiring fan patches to fix resolution issues, crashes, and broken cutscenes. Even on consoles, the game suffers from a staggering level of lag and frame rate drops, particularly during the final boss fight against the amorphous "God" of the cult. Silent Hill- Homecoming
