While individual downloaders are rarely sued, distributing copyrighted material is illegal. More importantly, Tripwire Interactive is a mid-sized studio. Piracy hurts the developers who put years of work into the game. If everyone used Apunkagames, Killing Floor 3 (currently in development) would have less funding.
