Chanty

This paper examines the concept of the jantar secreto (secret dinner) as a recurring trope in political resistance and intellectual dissidence. Focusing on a case study of a restricted-access PDF document allegedly summarizing a clandestine meeting of exiled thinkers, the paper analyzes how the PDF format serves as a modern vehicle for forbidden discourse. Drawing from historical parallels (Plato’s Symposium , Renaissance secret societies, 20th-century dictatorship-era Brazil/Portugal), the study argues that the PDF’s fixed, replicable, yet encrypted nature transforms ephemeral oral gatherings into permanent, traceable artifacts—paradoxically preserving secrecy while enabling leakability.
