Unlike many sitcoms of its era that started with a joke, the premiere of The Mindy Project starts with a fantasy. Mindy (Mindy Kaling) is watching Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle while eating takeout on her couch. She turns to the camera (in a brief breaking of the fourth wall) and sighs: "I really want to watch this movie for the first time again."
