The "Wave of Science" also sets the stage perfectly for the Season 1 finale (Episode 24), where the Kingdom of Science finally confronts Tsukasa. Without the intelligence gained here, that battle would be a massacre. Thanks to the balloon, it becomes a chess match.

Cornered, Senku reveals a risky plan. He has secretly been building a massive (the "Perseus" prototype). The logic is genius: Tsukasa believes Senku will retreat. He expects a land battle. Instead, Senku proposes floating over the flames. Dr. Stone Episode 23

Just as Senku moves to complete the petrification, (the spear-wielding, ruthless fighter from Tsukasa’s army) betrays Tsukasa, aiming a fatal blow at his back. Senku, despite everything, orders Kohaku to block Hyoga’s attack. Why? Because if Tsukasa dies, his entire army will go berserk. A partially petrified Tsukasa is a deterrent —a dead one is a martyr.
