Freecom was acquired by Synaxon AG, and official support has largely ended. You must be extremely careful where you download legacy drivers. Many "driver download" websites are filled with malware and adware.
The Freecom Network Storage Assistant remains a simple, effective solution for managing older Freecom NAS hardware. While it lacks modern features like cloud sync or real-time antivirus scanning, it excels at its core mission: making network storage feel like a local drive. If you own a legacy Freecom device, this tool is still the best way to unlock its full potential.
If you still have the original "Manual & Software Installation CD" that came with your device, the FNSA.exe installer is located under Software Installation > FNS Assistant . Technical Notes & Compatibility
If the Assistant fails, use Windows natively. Open Command Prompt and type arp -a . Look for an IP address with a MAC address starting with 00:0C:41 (Freecom’s manufacturer OUI). If you see it, type \\[IP Address] into Windows Run manually.
If you follow this guide, you should be able to map your Freecom drive and copy your old photos, documents, and backups to a modern storage system. While Freecom is no longer a major player in the consumer market, their hardware was built to last. With this software, you can ensure your data lasts just as long.
