Usually, the X Server runs on the same machine where the monitor is attached. However, the X Window System was designed with network transparency in mind. This means you can run the (e.g., Firefox, IntelliJ, or a terminal) on a powerful remote Linux server, while running the X Server on your local Windows laptop. The client sends the graphical data over the network to your server, which draws it on your screen. Your entire Xfce desktop will appear in a Windows window
