Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova - Joplin Public Library
Unable to accept the finality of death, Magos—a woman with a shadowy past and a deep connection to the esoteric—cuts a piece of her deceased son’s lung and preserves it. She feeds it raw meat, blood, and her own breast milk. To her shock, the lump of flesh begins to breathe. It grows. It forms teeth, then limbs, then a face that resembles her lost boy.
